Who we are
Chocoholic Anonymous is a blog dedicated to sharing recipes, baking and cooking tips and tricks, and recommendations for some of our favorite baking and cooking items. We are based in the United States. Our website address is: https://chocoholicanonymous.com.
User Accounts
When you register for an account on Chocoholic Anonymous, we store the personal information you provide in your user profile. This includes data necessary to power features like your Personal Recipe Collections and Private Notes. This data is stored on our secure servers and is only accessible by you and our site administrators for technical support. We do not use your personal information for targeted advertising, profiling, or automated decision‑making.
We use industry-standard security measures to protect your personal data; however, please remember that no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure.
Comments
When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
Membership & Commenting
Registered members benefit from unmoderated commenting. While these comments are published instantly, we still collect the data shown in the comments form and the visitor’s IP address to prevent spam. We reserve the right to remove any content, including instant comments submitted by registered members, that is deemed inappropriate or harmful to the community.
Media
If you upload images to the website, including avatar images, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.
Cookies
If you leave a comment on our site, you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.
If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.
If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.
We provide a cookie consent banner that allows you to accept, decline, or customize non‑essential cookies.
Embedded content
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.
Data Management and Handling
This section explains how we handle, store, share, and protect the data you provide to us.
Data Sharing
We do not send, share or sell registered user profile data to any external websites, vendors or individuals. However, there are some scenarios where a limited set of data must be shared or sent to an external entity either to better support our users or for the security and integrity of our site:
- If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.
- Email addresses may be shared with an external mailing service provider solely for the purpose of delivering an opt-in, recurring email based newsletter. These providers are prohibited from using your email address for any other purpose.
- Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service, this includes data voluntarily shared within the comments form, visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string.
These services receive only the minimum data necessary to perform their function.
Data Retention
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is for content continuity and so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
For users that register on Chocoholic Anonymous, we store the personal information provided in their profile, including private recipe collections and notes, for as long as the account is active. Users can see, edit, or delete their information at any time. Upon account deletion, all personal data and private collections are permanently removed from our active database. Backups may retain encrypted copies of deleted data for up to 21 days as part of routine server maintenance.
Data Rights
If you have left comments on this site you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
Children’s Privacy
Chocoholic Anonymous does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe such information has been collected, please contact us so we can remove it.
Analytics
Chocoholic Anonymous uses a few tools to understand how visitors use the site and which recipes are most popular:
- Koko Analytics – a privacy‑friendly analytics tool that stores anonymized traffic data on our own server. This data is used only to understand which posts are popular and how visitors find the site.
- WP Popular Posts – tracks which posts are viewed most often. This data is stored locally on our server and is used only to display popular content on the site.
- Google Analytics and Google Search Console – used to understand how visitors use the site and how our content performs in search results. Google may collect information such as your IP address, device type, and browsing behavior. This data is processed according to Google’s Privacy Policy. We do not use Google Analytics for advertising or remarketing.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The ‘Last Updated’ date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the site after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
