The recipe of choice this week is Chewy Chunky Blondies selected by Nicole of Cookies on Friday. As far as cookie bars go,blondies play a very close second to brownies as far as I’m concerned. Especially blondies that are full of chocolate bits and toffee pieces!
This week’s recipe was selected by Karen of Welcome to our Crazy Blessed Life; she selected Brrrr-ownies on page 103. Now, I’ve never met the brownie that I truly didn’t like and “Prince Charming” is a huge fan of chocolate and mint so I knew this was a must bake recipe.
However, I’m not nearly the mint fan my hubby is so I decided I would make the recipe as written for him, but also do a modified batch for me…
This week’s TWD is a recipe I’ve had my eye on for a while; it is Tarte Noir chosen by Dharmagirl of bliss: towards a delicious life (page 351). A simple, elegant and incredibly rich chocolate tart, how could I resist?
As usual, I’m down to the wire for my posting deadline, so let’s get right to it…
This week’s TWD challenge was selected by Amy of Amy Ruth Bakes. She made the excellent choice of Dressy Chocolate Loafcake on pages 286 and 287. There are just so many things to love about this recipe; chocolate (of course), ease of preparation, and size to name a few.
I wasn’t exactly thrilled by the filling Dorie uses – raspberry jam should not be within shouting distance of my chocolate cake. But that was easy enough to fix; I went with a peanut butter mousse and bittersweet chocolate ganache, one layer of each between each of the three layers of cake.
Why don’t I just let the pictures speak for themselves…
I know, it isn’t Tuesday anymore but I’m going to pretend it is while writing this post. I actually went through the effort of making this recipe not once, not twice, but three times over the weekend. I probably should have written my post over the weekend as well (someday I will get in that habit, or so I keep telling myself), but I didn’t and Tuesday found me feeling too far under the weather to sit in front of a computer (or go to work or do much of anything). But enough with the excuses, right, you just want to see the goods…
This week’s TWD assignment is White Chocolate Brownies selected by Marthe of Culinary Delights. Before going any further I feel a need to point out that the term “white chocolate” is a bit of a misnomer – it isn’t chocolate at all, as it contains no chocolate liquor.
That being the case, I simply could not make this recipe as it was written…
So, at the end of last week’s post I promised my very first product review/reader give away and I have failed to deliver. I do apologize, I won’t offer any excuses but sometimes life (or in this case work) just happens and we have to roll with the punches. “Prince Charming” is now assisting me with the product review so I will get it posted soon.
Now, on to this week’s TWD challenge selected by Spike of spike.bakes – Banana Coconut Ice Cream Pie (page 350)… Read more…
As usual, I’m cutting it pretty close to the wire for my TWD post. Maybe someday organization and time management will return to my life. In the mean time, let’s discuss Elizabeth of Cake or Death? selection of Apple-Apple Bread Pudding on pages 408 and 409 of Dorie’s book.
I think I may have mentioned it the last time we did a bread pudding, but in general I would say they aren’t my favorite dessert. I’m really not sure why – in essence they are a baked french toast and french toast is listed among my favorite breakfast foods. Maybe that is the issue, maybe bread pudding just seems more like a breakfast than a dessert. That being said, I was surprised to find that I really did enjoy this particular bread pudding…
I have a TWD double header going on this week. I really did make last week’s Dulce de Leche Duos and was all prepared to post about them on Tuesday but instead I had the pleasure of dealing with a broken refrigerator (which didn’t get fixed until the next morning anyway). After that I just never seemed to find a chance to post about the cookies until it just seemed to make more sense to combine two weeks worth of TWD into one.
And so, here we are…TWD two for one!
Here we are, Tuesday again and I’ve somehow managed to scrape together the time to make this week’s TWD challenge (that was in doubt for a time this weekend) - Soft Chocolate and Raspberry Tart on page 354 chosen by Rachelle of “Mommy? I’m Hungry!“. As I’m sure you are all well aware by now, as far as I’m concerned fruit and chocolate must be strictly segregated from one another. But at its heart this recipe was pure decadent chocolate so I felt compelled to make it.
