So, at the end of last week’s post I promised my very first product review/reader give away and I have failed to deliver.  I do apologize, I won’t offer any excuses but sometimes life (or in this case work) just happens and we have to roll with the punches.  “Prince Charming” is now assisting me with the product review so I will get it posted soon.

Now, on to this week’s TWD challenge selected by Spike of spike.bakes – Banana Coconut Ice Cream Pie (page 350)… Read more…

TWD: Banana Cream Pie

This week, for your TWD enjoyment, Amy of Sing for Your Supper selected Banana Cream Pie, found on pages 342 and 343 of Dorie’s book.

I really wasn’t sure how I felt about this recipe, I very nearly decided to skip this week, but “Prince Charming” has actually requested a banana cream pie off and on for – well probably for as long as he’s known I’m pretty good at making just about anything sweet.  So I took another look over the recipe and decided to give it a whirl.

Thanksgiving Feast

I had every intention of posting this a little closer to Thanksgiving, I planned to post it on Friday, which then got postponed until Saturday and I’m not entirely sure where Sunday went.  I think we all know what they say about “good intentions” and “best laid plans” which is why I’m here on Monday writing a post that I should have shared on Friday.  But, moving on…

It has been said a time or two (or 3 or 4 or 20) that I tend to go every so slightly (read insanely) overboard with my holiday menus and preparation.  If that is true (and I’m not admitting that it is!) I’m sure I come by it quite honestly by way of my mother.  Every holiday meal I’ve ever made has fallen short of the abundance my mother spreads on the holiday table multiple times a year; of course I think the largest number I’ve ever had at my holiday table is 5 (this Thanksgiving it was only 2, and that included me), but that doesn’t stop me from striving for the Holiday feast perfection that my mother serves up at every major holiday.

So did I truly go over board this Thanksgiving?  I’ll let you be the judge, but I will say that the leftovers are going to be enjoyed in several forms for quite some time…

TWD: Thanksgiving Twofer Pie

Firstly, thank you to Laurie for relaxing the rules this week; allowing us to post Vibi’s (La casserole carrée) apropos selection after our Thanksgiving feasting.  How much more perfect could the recipe assignment for the week of Thanksgiving be than a pie that has Thanksgiving in its very name?

This week we are making Thanksgiving Twofer Pie.  If you are not familiar with it, this pie essentially takes two Thanksgiving classics and smashes them together in a single pie plate.  Now personally I absolutely love pecan pie (the only thing better is chocolate pecan pie) but pumpkin pie has always been missing something for me.  Don’t get me wrong, I like pumpkin pie and I make at least one every year but given a spread of desserts that often averages one to two full desserts per person at the table there is always something that I will choose before pumpkin pie.  After reading this recipe I had very high hopes – perhaps pecan pie is what had been missing from pumpkin pie…
