TWD: Raisin Swirl Bread

Posted by C. A. - Categoriezed under: TWD

I know, it isn’t Tuesday anymore but I’m going to pretend it is while writing this post. I actually went through the effort of making this recipe not once, not twice, but three times over the weekend. I probably should have written my post over the weekend as well (someday I will get in that habit, or so I keep telling myself), but I didn’t and Tuesday found me feeling too far under the weather to sit in front of a computer (or go to work or do much of anything). But enough with the excuses, right, you just want to see the goods…

TWD: Apple-Apple Bread Pudding (and exciting news!)

Posted by C. A. - Categoriezed under: TWD

As usual, I’m cutting it pretty close to the wire for my TWD post.  Maybe someday organization and time management will return to my life.  In the mean time, let’s discuss Elizabeth of Cake or Death? selection of Apple-Apple Bread Pudding on pages 408 and 409 of Dorie’s book.

I think I may have mentioned it the last time we did a bread pudding, but in general I would say they aren’t my favorite dessert.  I’m really not sure why – in essence they are a baked french toast and french toast is listed among my favorite breakfast foods.  Maybe that is the issue, maybe bread pudding just seems more like a breakfast than a dessert.  That being said, I was surprised to find that I really did enjoy this particular bread pudding…

TWD: Cocoa-Nana Bread

This week we have Steph of Obsessed with Baking to thank for choosing Cocoa-Nana Bread on page 46 of Dorie’s book.  I’m sure you’ve seen me write (over and over again) on this blog that chocolate and fruit should never be combined – but as the old adage goes, there is an exception to every rule.  I have to admit that I enjoy some variations of banana and chocolate and I cannot deny that bananas are, in fact, fruit.

As a general rule I prefer my banana bread with chocolate chips in it (and with a little peanut butter on it), so, as soon as I saw this recipe on the schedule I was convinced I would enjoy it…

TWD: Four Star Chocolate Bread Pudding

First of all, I apologize to anyone that may have stopped by last week and discovered that I was MIA on Tuesday (and the entire rest of the week for that matter).  I was actually looking forward to making the 15 Minute Magic Chocolate Amaretti Torte but a lack of time and availability of ingredients at my local store made participation difficult enough to dissuade me from trying.

In fact, I very nearly missed this week too (can you believe it, two chocolate recipes in a row and I almost missed out on both!). “Prince Charming” and I have been rather immersed in a side project for the past week and a half or so; neither one of us has accomplished much of anything else.

TWD: Kugelhopf

Posted by C. A. - Categoriezed under: TWD

Here we are on another Tuesday, I’m not sure where the last week went.  I was really looking forward to having the day off of work today and being able to bake the TWD assignment actually on Tuesday.  It turns out that I haven’t truly had the day off (the ability to work from home is really only a benefit when it doesn’t interfer with time off!) and because of the long wait times involved in this week’s assignment I actually started working on it last night.  Oh well, can’t have everything I suppose.  Without further ado, this week’s TWD assignment is Kugelhopf (please don’t ask me to pronounce that!) selected by Yolanda of The All-Purpose Girl.

One thing I did like about waiting a couple more days to begin working on this recipe was the opportunity to learn from my fellow TWD-ers’ experiences.  The idiom goes “forewarned is forearmed” and I wish it were true in this case, but sadly it just isn’t.  The many reports of runny dough and dough that just never rose properly did not in any way save me from experiencing the exact same thing.  I did have high hopes of avoiding the “bland” flavor reported by several TWD-ers, but alas, that was not to be either…
