TWD: Sablés

Posted by C. A. - Categoriezed under: TWD

This week Barbara of Bungalow Barbara selected sablés from pages 131-133.  As I was rather pressed for time this week, all I can say is I’m glad these are so quick to whip up!

sables

I tried two variations of this recipe.  The first was a spiced vanilla bean (scraped vanilla bean, cinnamon and nutmeg) and the second was a chocolate and spice (chocolate shavings, cinnamon and nutmeg).

I’m sorry to say that sablés will never be my favorite cookies.  I’ve tried numerous recipes and all of them come out well (including this one), but I simply don’t care for the type of cookie.  My favorite cookies are all moist and chewy which sablés are, by definition, not.  I thought both flavors were rather tasty but I was perfectly happy to send most of them off to work with “Prince Charming” – he, at least, did enjoy them.  His first taste resulted in the comment “they’re good! I like them!” and he snuck a few more off the rack while I was otherwise occupied.

If you’d like to give these a try yourself, check out Barbara’s site or Dorie’s book for the full recipe.  As always, don’t forget to check out the TWD blogroll for more sablé fun.

Thank you for baking along with me this week, especially since this is not your favorite type of cookie. I’m glad they found a fan in Prince Charming!

I love ALL cookies, but I admit to a slight preference for buttery, crisp/sandy ones like these.

I think they are a very good cookie. But, like you, given the choice, I will take a soft and chewy (maybe even gooey) cookie. They look good, though.
